What is a Wire Rope Thimble?

Wire rope thimble is used to protect the wire rope, in conjunction with wire rope clips, grips or clamps to make reinforce loops (eyelet), to protect and extend the life of the wire rope slings by preventing the wire rope from fraying due to friction, and also by providing the eyelet with the structure to prevent eyelet deformation or knotting.

Generally available in light-duty and heavy-duty, light-duty is usually used for static applications such as permanent installations or applications that do not experience loads. light duty wire rope thimble is generally best used on traditional fibre ropes as they can withstand the same loads as fibre ropes. For example, US TYPE G411, and DIN6899A are the more common types of light duty. Heavy duty wire rope thimble like DIN 3091 solid thimble and BS464 thimble is usually used for applications that will experience loads and is ideal for applications such as lifting, rigging and applications that require frequent connection or disconnection of the thimble from other heavy duty rigging equipment. ideal for applications where rigging equipment is frequently connected or disconnected.
